Franklin MacVeagh (1837-1934) Banker, politician. MacVeagh had been director of the Commercial National Bank when President William Howard Taft tapped him to be Secretary of the Treasury in 1909. He is remembered for increasing the efficiency and general progressiveness of the Treasury Department: He abolished 450 unnecessary positions, rehabilitated the U.S. Customs Service. 5 ¼” x 8” autograph letter signed, The Secretary of the Treasury, February 28 (no year), to A. N. Marquis & Company. “…I return herewith the sketch for Who’s Who in America…The facts as givenare all I wish to print….” The 8 ½” x 11” biography, with corrections and additions by MacVeagh is included.
