Description
[Mickey Spillane]. Mickey Spillane's Leather Flight Jacket. Mickey frequently dressed in aviation-related clothing as a nod to his military flying days. This goat-skin leather flying jacket is a later commercial version of the Navy G-1 type intended for the civilian market. This example was made by Cooper Sportswear Manufacturing, labeled size 46R and bearing Mickey's military service number on the lower label. Affixed to the left front breast is a leather Southeast Training Command unit insignia to which Mickey belonged during World War II. Attached immediately above via Velcro strips is a leather name tag stamped in silver "MICKEY SPILLANE" and featuring his Command Pilot's wings. The jacket remains in excellent condition and was likely one of Mickey's favorites worn in his later years. From the estate of Mickey Spillane.
