[Mickey Spillane]. Mickey Spillane's A-2 Style Leather Flight Jacket. Spillane remained mindful of his military aviation background throughout his life and military-style flying jackets seemed to be a staple in his wardrobe. This example, based on the classic WWII Army Air Force A-2 flight jacket, was commercially produced by Cooper Sportswear Manufacturing and is marked size 46R. Like the other flight-style jackets in his wardrobe, Spillane has customized this jacket by affixing a leather Southeast Training Command unit insignia above the left breast pocket, the training command under which he served during the war. A black leather name tag held by Velcro strips is mounted just above the insignia. The tag is stamped in silver with Command Pilot wings and "F. M. SPILLANE / CAPT USAF."
