WORLD WAR II: A small selection of First Day Covers (1970-1999), signed, comprising Sir Frank Whittle (1907-1996, English Royal Air Force Officer, inventor of the jet engine), Airey Neave (1916-1979, first British officer successfully to escape from the German prisoner-of-war camp Oflag IV-C at Colditz Castle), W.E. 'Wally' Hammond and Don 'Tubby' Lister (escapees from Lamsdorf prison after being transferred from Colditz), Richard Todd (1919-2009, Irish-born British Soldier and Film Actor), all signed in pen ink to clear areas of the cover. Together with A.L.S., Wally Hammond, one page, 4to, Henley-on-Thames, 11th November 1972, to George. A brief letter describing the escape made by himself and Tubby Lister from Lamsdorf prison in 1942. Also including, First Day Cover entitled Midnight Run, depicting a Lancaster bomber from 617 Squadron releasing its bomb, signed by John Thaw (1942-2002, British Actor), to a clear area of the cover.
