Item Details
Description
This is an excellent authentic Eastern Woodlands Native American Indian Ball Head War Club from circa 1850-1870. The mid-19th century weapon has been carved from one piece of root burl wood and shows exceptional craftsmanship. The war club shows traces of mineral yellow ochre and black paint on the ball head. The haft is adorned with brass trade tacked designs and has a pierced hole below the gripping section. The pierced hole most likely held a beaded drop with feathers or a hide wrist thong at one time. The brass tacked design is most likely the signature from the Indian Warrior. Provenance: From the personal collection of renowned collector and foremost expert on war clubs and tomahawks, Mark Francis. The Francis collection piece has been authenticated and is truly a museum quality important Indian Wars mid-19th century weapon. Measures 21"L x 6.75"W x 3 1/8"D.
