A lifelong resident of San Francisco, Annie Harmon's brother was married to the artist William Keith's daughter. Harmon became a student of Keith's, and made her debut at the spring exhibition of the San Francisco Art Association in 1885. Later that year, she exhibited in the landmark "Ladies Art Exhibition" in San Francisco, where critics appreciated her "several neat sketches." (San Francisco Examiner, December 16, 1885). Harmon was represented at the Art Association from 1885 until 1913. Her early works show the influence of the Barbizon aesthetic, with more muted color schemes. During the latter part of her career her palette brightened, reflecting an interest in Impressionist strategies and color.
