A Stone Axe USA, Oregon Length: 30.5cm. (12in.) Circa 1000 B.C. Provenance: Collection Paul Stover Wingert (1900-1974) Sale: Christie's, Paris,11 Nov 2007, lot 126 Literature: Miles, Charles, Indian and Eskimo Artifacts of North America, Chicago , 1963, p. 158, fig. 6.18 and 6.19 The elongated shape represents a stylised animal, with two legs and a diminutive head, the back carved with a hollow split, old label reading 17/1927, Sauviers Island, Columbia River . All lots in this sale have been imported from outside the EU and are under Temporary Admission, therefore the buyer must pay the import VAT at the rate of 5% on the Hammer Price.
