He died in France 36 days later, holding the rank of Brigadier General. Presentation copy inscribed on the front free endpaper, "To Luis from Eleanor, 1948". The inscription is by Roosevelt's widow, Eleanor Roosevelt (not to be confused with the widow of Franklin Roosevelt). The recipient was Luis de Florez, naval aviator and rear admiral in the United States Navy. The book was given by Suzanne de Florez, daughter-in-law of Luis, to the current owners, who were her neighbors and friends.
