Androscoggin. 2 copies, both signed and inscribed by Marsden Hartley in the year of publication. One copy with the illustrated bookplate of Normena MacKinnon, the other with a typewritten "setlist" for a reading laid in. Portland, Maine: Falmouth Publishing House, 1940.

Sea Burial. Signed by Hartley on the front flyleaf. With a small reproduction of one of his paintings mounted on the front free endpaper. Portland, Maine: Leon Tebbetts Editions, 1941.

Selected Poems. New York: The Viking Press, 1945.

Present as well are two manuscript letters from Marsden Hartley to Normena MacKinnon, with original hand-addressed mailing envelopes. One is from 1929 (2 pages on a single sheet), the other from 1939 (2 pages on 2 sheets). The latter is written on Falmouth Publishing House letterhead and sent in the publisherâ€˜s printed envelope. Hartley spent his final years from 1937-43 in Maine and in that time befriended MacKinnon and apparently stayed with her occasionally. One of the letters mentions a poem being written while looking out her second story window. An inscription mentions Hartley being prouder of his poetry than of his work in the painting world. Also included is a small handout for an art show of Hartleyâ€˜s, a few postcards and some miscellaneous clippings, etc. kept by the family.

Marsden Hartley was an American Modernist painter, poet, and essayist. He developed his painting abilities by observing Cubist artists in Paris and Berlin. Hartley was a great admirer of Albert Pinkham Ryder and often visited his studio in Greenwich Village. His friendship with Ryder, in addition to the writings of Walt Whitman, Henry David Thoreau, and Ralph Waldo Emerson, inspired Hartley to view art as a spiritual quest.
