A rare early edition, pre-dating the first Colorado Counties. Nebraska is shown in an early form with a long panhandle extending all the way to present-day Idaho. Several wagon roads are shown and the Pony Express route is named. Numerous Indian tribes, forts and trading posts are located. County development in Kansas and Nebraska is limited to the eastern edge. Denver City located on the banks of Cherry Fork with Auraria shown directly south of the city. Names the North, Middle, and South Parks, as well as several forts and a few towns in Colorado. Excellent early map of the regional area of the Plains and Rocky Mountains. Predates Idaho and Wyoming. Shows early proposed railroads, forts, Indian tribes, rivers, mountains, etc. The Plains region is still very much in transition, with results of several major explorations begun just after the civil war not yet in evidence. Decorative signature floral border. Also shows portions of New Mexico, Texas and Indian Territory. Full period hand coloring. Excellent, clean example with just one pea-size stain in lower left hand corner of Colorado
