Description
Arunichal Pradesh, India or Tibet, ca. 18 th century CE. A very early Citipati (Lord of the Funeral Pyre) mask, carved from a single piece of wood, with curved, double eye slits surrounding incised closed eyes, gracefully arched brows, concave facial planes, a jutting toothy grin, an upturned nose, and a triangular motif carved in bas relief upon its forehead. Size: 6.75" W x 8.25" H (17.1 cm x 21 cm); slightly larger mask measures 15.125" H (38.4 cm) on stand
