Description
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A pair of lost wax cast bronze appliques. One is a human face with a pronounced nose and wild, swirling hair. The other is a fierce lion with a large mane and a wide open, roaring mouth. Appliques were made to decorate furniture, saddles, and many other everyday items in Roman life. Size of largest (lion): 1.45" W x 1.5" H (3.7 cm x 3.8 cm)
Provenance: Ex-Private Orange, County CA collection acquired between 1990 and 1995
