Counties current to 1854 making this the uncommon and desirable first edition (Tarrant county appears, but not the 1855 addition of Parker to Tarrant's west). Extremely nice example with full hand-color. The only single sheet map of Texas to be produced by Colton. This beautiful, authentic antique map is from the 1856 edition of Colton's Atlas of the World. The print image is superior and the paper is in exceptional condition with just a whisper of very light toning to the extreme outside edges (will not show when matted). An unusually clean and bright example of a hallmark of nineteenth century American mapmaking. Very tiny, very light pinhead spot in Indian Territory near top neatline. A lovely example of fine engraving and 19th century mapmaking.
