Extremely nice example with very nice full hand-color. Very unusual configuration as the entire western half of country shows just eight large territories and two states; territorial makeup would change dramatically over the next few years as the country became settled and expanded westward. This beautiful, authentic antique map is from the 1856 edition of Colton's Atlas of the World. The print image is superior and the paper is in exceptional condition with just a whisper of very light toning to the extreme outside bottom and top edges (will not show when matted). An unusually clean and bright example of a hallmark of nineteenth century American mapmaking. Tiny faint mark in image and small crease at bottom of image.
