Description
Manufactured from 1888 to 1893. This is a first type with two piece carbine style trigger guard and stacking swivel only 2,000 made in 1888. Has an 1884 rear sight. Barrel is stamped with the U.S. eagle proof (thin). Block is stamped "U.S. Model 1884". Lock is stamped "U.S. Springfield" with eagle. Barrel bands are stamped with a "U". Buttplate stamped "U.S.". Excellent walnut stocks with visible "S.W.P." cartouche, not readable. No visible "P". Trigger bow has 70% of the high polish blue. Guard plate is grey patina. Metal is basically smooth patina overall. Wood is excellent. Fine action and strong rifled bore.
