Description
This pistol began life as a standard WWII Remington-Rand contract Model 1911-A1 manufactured in 1945. Right side of frame has all the proper military markings including ordnance wheel. Left side of frame has the F.J.A. (Frank Atwood) inspector mark. Left side of slide is stamped "Remington-Rand Syracuse.N.Y. U.S.A.". It was pulled from inventory, upgraded with high profile target front and rear sights. The barrel was jeweled, the gun was royally finished in blue. Sides of hammer are jeweled. Has the standard Keyes type and brown composite grips. Gun retains nearly all of the original finish and is in near new condition inside and out with a couple of minor rubs. Right side of frame is engraved "Secretary of the Navies Pistol Trophy-1961, won by Mid Shipman, Robert O Hawkins Jr. U.S.N.". It is accompanied by a certificate of title listing gun by serial number to the property of Robert Hawkins having been awarded to him as a prize for marksmanship proficiency in accordance to the Chief of Naval personnel. The award program was established July 21, 1959 and approved by Secretary of Navy September 24, 1959. U.S. Navy Lt. in charge was Charles Tate. Return address of U.S. Naval Training Center in San Diego, California. This is the first of its type that we have encountered and is extremely rare Model 1911-A1 with direct Navy provenance.
