Description
Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche III-IV, ca. 200 to 500 CE. A bichrome stirrup vessel, hand painted in beautifully contrasting hues of red and white, that is quite unusual in that it features a genre scene of Moche life rather than an individual human portrait, animal or plant representation. Standing in between mountainous peaks of the Andes is a male figure wearing a headdress, wristlets, ear ornaments, and a loin cloth who holds three seed-like forms in his raised right hand that he is perhaps about to toss to from the Andes as an offering to Pachamama. A finely painted mold-made form with intriguing subect matter. Size: 6.5" L x 5.75" W x 7.625" H (16.5 cm x 14.6 cm x 19.4 cm)
