Item Details
Description
Commentary on the Zohar (First section: Genesis; second: Exodus; third: Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy), a book of chassidut and kabbalah well thought of amongst chassidim, by the Kabbalist Rabbi Zvi Hirsch of Zidichov, known as the Sar Beit HaZohar.
First edition, Stefanski Chassidut 460.
Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Eichenstein of Zidichov (1763-1831), a descendent of the Tosafot Yom Tov, founded Zidichov chassidut, was known as a kabbalist well-versed in mysticism as well as the revealed Torah. Rabbi Haim of Sanz, the Divrei Haim, said that when people in Galicia say ÒRabbiÓ by itself, they intend the Rabbi of Zidichov. Rabbi Yehezkel of Sinoa said that going up to his grave on the day of his death on 11th of Tammuz was tantamount to the journey to the RashbiÕs grave on Lag BÕOmer.
The copy before us has a signature in the first section on the page before the cover page, by ÒYaakov Fish,Ó seems to be the handwritten signature of the Tzaddik Rabbi Yaakov Fish, who was a frequent visitor of the tsaddik Rabbi Yitzhak Isaac of Kaliv, and head of the community in the city. During his generation he was known as a true tsaddik and possessing the RuÕach HaKodesh, a kabbalist who died at a very old age, after the BaÕal Shem Tov met him a number of times during his lifetime and blessed him with wealth and long life.
The third section has the stamp of Rabbi ZeÕev Wolf Ashkenazi from holy city of Jerusalem, who published and edited works of kabbalah, to which he would add chiddushim and wise notes.
Generally good condition, light moth damage, binding of section 3 is missing.
