Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A flat figure from the West Mexican shaft tomb culture that stands with bent arms and legs, a large and lovingly rendered erect phallus, and what look like female breasts. These figures, with male and female characteristics, are sometimes associated with shamanistic traditions, which in West Mexico and indeed throughout Mesoamerica focused on transformation and breaching the boundaries between male and female and human and animal. The artist who created this figure used applied strips of clay, incised lines, and sparing red pigment to give detail and texture to the figure. Comes with custom stand. Size: 3.8" W x 6.4" H (9.7 cm x 16.3 cm)
