Description
This lot features a 1874 model U.S. Cavalry McClellan saddle. This saddle is a wonderful example of a McClellan saddle. This type of cavalry saddle was developed by Army Major General George B. McClellan & was adopted by the US War Department in 1859. It remained standard issue in various models for the remaining history of the horse cavalry, which was dismounted in WWII (1940's). They were used by the mounted cavalry in the Indian Wars, Spanish War, Civil War, WWI, & WWII. It's still used today by ceremonial mounted units in the US Army. The leather and brass hardware are all where they should be, and the saddle itself is in good condition. This is a faithful modern recreation of U.S. military history. It measures 22" L x 14" W x 10" H
