Marino Marini (1901-1980)
Marini started studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence in 1917. In 1928, he travelled to Paris, where he spent the following years and met the artists Giorgio de Chirico, Wassily Kandinsky, and Aristide Maillol. This is where he also met the two founders of the Avant-garde, Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. A favorite subject of the Italian artist was the connection between horses and humans. Marini's most famous sculpture is the bronze ‘L'angelo della città’ (The angel of the city) in front of the entrance of the Palazzo Venier dei Leoni in Venice, where now is located the Peggy Guggenheim Collection.
