Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A nice small example of a seated human figure. In Jalisco style, the head is emphasized and detailed, with wide staring eyes, a huge nose, and heavy jaw. Large spooled earrings and a headband with a crest complete the look. The body, in contrast, is less detailed, with a painted decoration in red and cream that may represent clothing or tattooing. These figures are from the West Mexican Shaft Tomb tradition and were made to be placed in tombs, where they lined the walls of the tomb while the deceased rested in the center. Size: 4.5" W x 7.35" H (11.4 cm x 18.7 cm)
