Description
Pre-Columbian, Calima, Colombia, Llama Phase, ca. 600 to 800 CE. This is a double-spouted vessel in the shape of an animal with four legs and a small head; it has an expressive face and a curled, upturned tail. His body is decorated with incised chevrons. On his back is a wide, curved, strap handle and two spouts from either side of the handle. Colombia has the highest rate of species by area worldwide; maybe this is a stylized armadillo, but there are many other options to choose from and it may also be fantastical. This is a really gorgeous piece with excellent details. Size: 6.75" L x 5.25" W x 6.25" H (17.1 cm x 13.3 cm x 15.9 cm).
