[John F. Kennedy]: Air Force One Co-Pilot Personal Artifacts. Carl A. Peden was a co-pilot on the Presidential plane Air Force One (Special Air Mission SAM-26000). He flew missions for Presidents John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard Nixon. He was third in command when ordered by President Johnson to return the body of slain President John F. Kennedy to Washington on November 22, 1963. He flew Henry Kissinger to Paris for secret peace negotiations with the North Vietnamese, as well as President Nixon on his ground-breaking trips to the People's Republic of China and the Soviet Union in 1972. This lot includes a variety of personally-owned items of Lt. Col. Peden. These include: size 7 1/4" Air Force cap with original box and ownership label in the lining, an 18" x 12" x 7" black leather document valise with ownership label on top, a matching brown leather document valise with two ownership labels, two different blue fabric carry-alls each with Presidential Seal inscribed "Welcome Aboard Air Force One", a red TWA carry-all inscribed "President's Pacific Mission 1966 Press", Peden's personal copy of the Bible, four Air Force "Instrument Certificate" licenses from 1958-1961 and a memoir by Air Force One pilot James U. Cross, "Around the World with LBJ" personally inscribed by the author to Peden ("The best I have ever known - expert pilot - one who has been there, done that, and shared a number of the same adventures enumerated in this book.
