Note: The painting offered here is an exquisite example of a William Henry Buck Louisiana landscape painting. The composition is dominated by a large moss-laden oak tree, a hallmark of Buck’s work, which is silhouetted against a cerulean blue sky which reflects on the water of the bayou in the left foreground. Two African-American figures are on the pier fishing. Buck uses fine detail and brushwork throughout the composition which is striking for its luminosity and effects of light and shadow.
