Nicola Galante (1883-1969)
Nicola Galante was born in Vasto province of Chieti. He trained as a cabinetmaker at the School of Applied Arts in Chieti. In 1912, he created his first woodcuts and a year later he began to study with the futuristic painter and illustrator Ardegno Sioffici. In 1922, Galante turned to painting, which was initially influenced by Cézanne, Braque and the French impressionism. From the 1940s on the structure of his picture became more flat, the colors increasingly turned pure and bright, rather related to the Fauves. Nicola Galante’s range of subject matters include mainly landscapes and still lifes. (fea)
