Caro, Annibal. Delle lettere del commendatore Annibal Caro, scritte a nome del cardinale Alessandro Farnese, divise in tre volumi, ed ora la prima volta pubblicate, volume primo [- 3.]. In Padova: appresso Giuseppe Comino, 1765 (In Padova: appresso Giuseppe Comino, 1764).
8vo (182x124 mm), half leather binding with marbled paper at boards, gilt title on a leather label at spine; 3 vols; pp. xxiv, 435, [1]; 483 [i.e. 363], [1]; 351, [1]. Xyl. vignette at title-pages; initials, head- and final-pieces.
Dedicatory letter at first volume by Angelo Comino.
Annibale Caro (or, better, Annibal Caro - 6 June 1507 - 17 November 1566) was an Italian writer and poet. Annibal Caro published a translation of the Aeneid which was much admired by contemporaries, and still is read with pleasure by the lovers of the Italian language. Another translation which remained the standard one for several centuries is that of Daphnis and Chloe, the novel by Longus.
