Biographical Memoirs of the Most Celebrated Physicians, Surgeons, etc. etc. Who Have Contributed to the Advancement of Medical Science" in 3 books, written by Thomas Joseph Pettigrew (British, 1791-1865) and containing 49 steel-engraved portraits and 2 leaves of engraved facsimiles. The volumes consist of 59 biographical and 1 autobiographical essays of people important in medical history, each essay separately paginated, from 4 to 40 pages long. Size of largest (book of volumes 3 & 4): 7.5" L x 1.75" W x 10.5" H (19 cm x 4.4 cm x 26.7 cm)

Condition

All have fraying, tearing, rubbing, and chipping to covers with bending to corners. Book of Vols 3 & 4 has damp stain to first few pages and front cover and spine detached from pages, but still connected to back cover. Foxing to pages in Vols 1 &2. All have discoloring to pages and old marks and labels from libraries and previous owners. Text and images still clear. Plates have not been collated. Please inquire for more detail regarding number and condition of specific plates and pages.
