Description
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd century CE. A substantial, heavy 22 karat gold ring made to be worn by someone in a high ranking military office. The shanks are carved in the form of a victory wreath, with flared shoulders and a deep carved decoration in the form of acanthus leaves. This supports a large square bezel with a raised circular inner bezel with an inscription that would have had personal meaning to the man wearing this. Size US 10.5; weight 23.2 grams.
