Geared Turbine Engine Model, circa 1930. Used on ocean passenger and cargo vessels. Because of the low efficiency of propellers working at the high speed of turbine engines, a reduction gear was introduced between turbine and propeller shafts in 1909. Includes card with specs. Comes with an electric drive motor for display. Also includes a photo of the Ship "Boston", built in 1924 for the Eastern Steamship Line, sunk by U-404 in convoy on Sept 25, 1942.
