Antique sword from the Knights of Pythias*. A ceremonial sword, given to new members of the society. Made of steel and chrome. Original sheath scabbard. Highly decorative, well ornamented throughout with various symbols. Leather hilt handle. Well marked - inscribed with the name of the original owner on the blade, in Gothic script - JOE B. RANDOLPH, as well as with the mark of the producer - M.C. LILEY & CO. COLUMBUS, OH**. American, first half of the 20th century. Measurements: Approx. 38.5" with scabbard x 5", 28.5" the blade. * The Knights of Pythias is a fraternal organization and secret society founded in 1864. Inscribed with the acronym "FCB", which stands for the Pythian motto - "Friendship, Charity, Benevolence" *; ** M.C. Lilley & Co. of Columbus, Ohio, who was a major producer of fraternal swords and regalia.
