Description
Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories, Ulua Valley, Honduras, Late Classic, ca. 600 to 900 CE. A lovely ritual bowl with rounded walls that curve inward to the rim and wonderful iconography featuring a procession of three humans with simian characteristics. Each figure boasts a long, curled monkey tail and strong human facial features and hands. Above this is a polychrome register of repeated stylized geometric motifs superimposed by a narrow register of abstract glyphoids around the rim. All is hand-painted in red and black on an orange ground with a red band on the interior rim. Size: 7.25" W x 4.25" H (18.4 cm x 10.8 cm)
