Description
14th century AD. A D-section gold hoop with expanding shoulders, rectangular bezel with inset panel to the underside, red cloison with intaglio profile female bust; enigmatic blackletter inscription to the inner face 'suie vostre' meaning 'I am yours'; Malcolm Jones, Sheffield University, Dept. English Language & Linguistics, Senior Lecturer 1994-2009, and advisor to the British Museum and Portable Antiquities Scheme, says: The –s- are ‘long s’ and look like the letter c in this script. If you compare the t in *rute with the certain t in vostre, you’ll see it can’t possible be a t, and I’m going for i – r would also be a possibility from the look of it – except that it’s nothing like the certain r in vostre!. 2.29 grams, 20mm overall, 16.27mm internal diameter (approximate size British K 1/2, USA 5 1/2, Europe 11.0, Japan 10) (3/4"). Property of a Suffolk gentleman; acquired before 2000. Accompanied by a positive X-Ray Fluorescence metal analysis certificate.
