Description
Bactria-Margiana, modern day central Asia, ca. 3rd to 2nd millennium BCE. This is a bronze axe head with a characteristic curving shape and narrow socket. The blade end is squared off. As ever, central Asia was a crossroads during this time period; people here were influenced by Iran in the west and the Indus Valley civilizations like Harappa in the east; however, they had their own distinctive bronze style. Size: 6.2" L x 1.8" W (15.7 cm x 4.6 cm)
Provenance: Ex-Estate of John Piscopo. Mr. Piscopo was one of the largest collectors of ancient weapons in the US with a collection that spanned all cultures, all ages.
