Emphatic and sensitive depiction of Mary in prayer – it is a beautiful work by the famous Italian painter of the Baroque, who devoted special attention to this painting. The Virgin has been privately owned since the 19th century. It belonged originally to the Leipziger bookseller and art publisher Alphons Dürr, and has been inherited within the family.
Condition:
The painting is in good condition, consistent with the age, it is slightly discolored and shows scattered marks and small loss of color. Minimal retouched spots can be seen to the background at the right edge and there are parallel creases to the edges – which might mean that the painting was presented once in detail. There are rubbed spots due to the frame. The painting is surrounded by wooden strips. The frame shows usual signs of age and wear as well as loss of material to the part of the corners.
