GERMAN METTLACH SCHLITT CERAMIC STEIN, having incised and painted polychrome decoration of the keeper of the clock tower with gnome and owl, an inlaid ceramic lid within a metal mount having a molded figural thumb rest, and a German saying. Signed on the design by "H. SCHLITT". Impressed mark on base with "METTLACH / VB" below a building and "GEGEN NACHSBILDUNG / GESCHUTZT / 2092" and in green transfer "VILLEROY & BOCH / METTLACH" and "MADE / IN / GERMANY". 1885-1930. 7 3/8" H at thumb rest.
