Description
Greece, Corinth, ca 4th century BCE. A large and fat transport amphora manufactured in Corinth, Greece but doomed to be lost in the Mediterranean Sea. Very rotund body with short button base, and two heavy rounded handles on the shoulders. Vessel was recovered in the sea in the 1970's and was covered in heavy barnacles, seashells, sea worms and coral. An impressive example and rare to find! Size: 20" W x 23" H (50.8 cm x 58.4 cm)
Provenance: Ex - Hanigan collection by family descent. Found and brought to the US in the 1950's
