Description
Ancient Near East, Holy Land, ca. early 1st millennium BCE. A wheel-thrown pottery transport amphora bearing an inverted piriform body along with a thick strap handle and a ringed rim. Along the shoulder is a shallow indentation - likely made when the vessel was being created - as well as a short, handwritten inscription in Greek; the letters are rather illegible. Size: 9.8" Diameter x 17.25" H (24.9 cm x 43.8 cm); 19.3" H (49 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition
Minor chips to foot and body, with age-commensurate pitting and areas of roughness, and fading to ink of handwritten inscription, otherwise intact and excellent. Great preservation to overall form.
