Description
Syria, Tell Halaf, ca. 4500 BCE. This is a part of one of the most desirable of all Near-Eastern antiquities - the lower half of a terracotta fertility goddess from the major archaeological site of Tell Halaf. This portion includes her massive thighs and tiny waist, with brown slip bands of decoration. These exaggerated female forms are some of the earliest religious artifacts that we know of. Size: 2" L x 1.5" W (5.1 cm x 3.8 cm)
