Item Details
Description
Anatolia, present-day Turkey, ca. 2800 to 2200 BCE. This is a kilia head made from a marble-like cream-colored stone, with a defined chin and otherwise flat face. Kilia are highly stylized female figures made throughout the Mediterranean during the Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Age. They have bulbous heads, long necks, and flat bodies with wide, flipper-like arms. Archaeologists have interpreted these figures as female and call them "stargazers" because their heads are tilted upwards. Size: 1" W x 1.25" H (2.5 cm x 3.2 cm)
