Description
Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Zapotec culture, Monte Alban, ca. 600 to 900 CE. This is a lovely grey ware pottery urn that depicts a seated deity with a cylindrical chamber behind and a mouth with toothy fangs. Pottery effigy urns like this piece are some of the only surviving artwork we have from this enigmatic culture. Size: 4.25" W x 8" H (10.8 cm x 20.3 cm)
