Description
An Egyptian turquoise glazed faience amulet of Taweret, Late Period, c. 664-30 BC. Also known as Thoueris, who was regarded as the patroness of pregnancy, and protectoress of the family at night. The goddess is wearing a solar disk and horns, the glazed well-preserved with brilliant blue color. H: 2 in (5.1cm). Custom stand. Ex J.M.E. collection, New York, acquired at Christie's London in October 1988. Exhibited: Sphinx: The Guardians of Egypt, Brussels, Oct. 19, 2006-Feb. 25, 2007. Exhibited: The New York International Antiquarian Fine Art Fair, New York, November 2001.
