Pre-Columbian, Peru, ca. 500 ca. 1000 CE. Carved wooden anthropomorphic figure created by the Wari/Huari culture. Characteristic gesture of clasped hands across abdominal area and simple yet expressive facial features. Wonderful emphasis on pure geometry of form. Size: 8-1/4"W (20.96 cm).
Provenance: Ex-private William Dale collection. Mr. Dale was a career diplomat stationed in Turkey in the early 1960's and acquired a vast collection of Greek, Roman and Near-Eastern treasures.
