Description
A COLLECTION OF FIVE ROYAL COPENHAGEN POLYCHROME PAINTED PORCELAIN FIGURES OF BIRDS, GREEN AND BLUE MAKER'S MARK, 20TH CENTURY, each painted in white and pastel color palette of browns, dusty blues, pale grays and pinks, and with various green underglaze Royal Copenhagen hallmarks underfoot, some with and some without hallmark's central crown, the collection comprising "Swallow," no. 2374, circa 1923, originally designed by F.V. von Platen-Hallermund (Danish 1922-2013), a resting blue and white bird with wings folded and head tuned to it's right and "PH" embossed monogram on underside of tale near base with an underside with green "DENMARK" maker's mark over blue triple wave and painter's uppercase "Y/A" initials above green "2374," height: 1 1/2", length: 4"; "Lovebirds," no. 402, circa 1975-1979, originally designed by Theodor Madsen (Danish 1880-1965), two white lovebirds perched side by side, the one on the left with head turned to it's right and downward cleaning it's wing stretched outward, the other completely leaned over with tail feather raised in the air and head turned under and gnawing at branched above a pierced base in the form of branches with rows of green veined leaves and pale blue flowers reversing to an underside stamped "402" beside "VO" alongside green crowned maker's mark over blue triple wave and painter's uppercase "DH" initials over green "402," height: 5 1/2"; "Snowy Owl," no. 1741, circa 1969-1974, also originally designed by Theodor Madsen, an all white owl with wings tucked and head turned to it's left perched on a gray and white striped rock base reversing to an underside with green crowned "DENMARK" maker's mark surmounting blue triple wave alongside illegible painter's initials over green "1741," height: 3 1/4"; "Pair of Owls," no. 834, circa 1950's, originally designed by Theodor Madsen, two brown owls side by side, one with eyes closed cleaning its head on the other, perched on a light cream scalloped base reversing to an underside with green crowned "DENMARK" maker's mark surmounting blue triple wave and painter's uppercase "F/D" initials alongside green "834," height: 3 1/2"; "Owl," no. 2999, circa 1966, also originally designed by Theodor Madsen, a brown and white great horned owl with head turned slightly to it's right, heavy eyelids and yellow eyes with wings tucked and perched on a green base reversing to an underside stamped "2999" opposite green maker's mark over blue triple wave beside painter's illegible initials and green "2999," the rim embossed "X," height: 5 3/4". Provenance: Estate of the Late James K. Schooler, Esq.
Condition
All five porcelain Royal Copenhagen pieces in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, or repairs. All clearly and correctly marked.
