This incredibly Rare Set of 10 Royal Copenhagen Polychrome “Children of the Provinces” was originally designed by Carl Martin-Hansen and was given as a present from the women of Denmark to King Christian the X and to Queen Alexandrine on their silver wedding anniversary in 1923. These are no longer manufactured, and rarely does the full set find its way to the secondary marketplace because they have always been, and continue to be, very coveted by those who collected them. The series features children of the territories of Denmark under which King Christian the X ruled. These territories included , The Faroe Islands, Greenland, Slesvig, Fano Island and Iceland which are or still are in union with Denmark. The costumes are true renditions of Danish regional costumes which were worn in each Danish province at the time that this series of figurines were created in 1923. The polychrome hand painted finishes are gem-like and remarkable. The figures range in height from approx. 3 1/2" to 5 1/2". Each figure holds or wears a garland of flowers. Sold individually, each figure typically sells for $595-795.00. In today's market and due the rarity of this offering we are going to keep the set together. The series starts with number 12412 and runs up to 12421. The names of the figures are written in Danish on the base but translate to such places as Greenland, Slesvig, Jutland, etc. We are only able to add 16 photos, so if you need to see different views, please do not hesitate to ask for additional photos. The Condition of this wonderful set is Mint, with there being only 1 blemish on #12413, where two tiny petals on one of the lower purple flowers are missing.
