Description
Pre-Columbian, Moche or Huari (Wari), Peru, ca. 650 CE. This is an interesting pottery piece with many details that will catch the eye and surprise every time you look at it. It has a front globe molded in the form of a skeletal figure with hollow eyes, nose, and mouth holes. The back chamber, decorated with a swirling wave motif, is surmounted by a spout, and a bridge handle joins the two globes. The paint is orange with black/brown highlights. The skeletal face shows signs of tattooing. This piece was made to be used as both an instrument and a vessel for holding liquids, possibly ritual libations. Size: 8.5" L x 4" W x 6" H (21.6 cm x 10.2 cm x 15.2 cm)
