Description
Roman Empire, ca. 1st century BCE to 2nd century CE. Fine pair of heavy cast gold hoop earrings, each nearly circular with ridged contour, raised bands on front third, looped catch. Believe it or not, the Romans invented the “hoop earring” which developed around 300 BCE. These earrings present a coiling snake which symbolized immortality and was a popular Roman motif. 2.7 grams. Tested at greater than 22kt. Size: .75" W (1.9 cm)
