Description
**First Time At Auction**
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A pair of gold wire hoop earrings, each comprised of 93.1 % gold (equivalent to 22K+) and embellished with three glass beads and an open hook for wearing on the earlobe. A larger blue glass bead is strung between two small white glass beads, all can move freely along a third of the hoop with a small section of wrapped wire placed below to keep the beads together. Roman women - especially of the upper classes - had their ears pierced and wore one set of earrings. Jewelry was particularly important to women in Roman society, because it was legally their own property, independent of their husband's wealth, and they could use it as they saw fit. Wearable and ideal for any occasion! Size of one: .625" W x .75" H (1.6 cm x 1.9 cm); 93.13% gold (equivalent to 22K+); total weight of both: 1.6 grams
Provenance: ex-Phoenicia Holyland Antiquities, ex-Fortuna Art Gallery acquired in the 2000s
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
