Description
Rare Glazed Southern Redware Jar with Elaborate Incised Sine-Wave Decoration, attributed to the Henkel-Spigle Pottery, Botetourt County, VA, circa 1830-1850, ovoid jar with squared rim and distinctive applied strap handles, the surface decorated with elaborate incised banding and combed wavy lines, covered in a lead and iron-oxide glaze. Provenance: Recently discovered in Virginia. Shallow chips and wear to rim. A 1" chip to underside of one handle. Additional wear to handles. Wear and a 5/8" chip to shoulder molding. Wear to surface. H 10 1/8".
