A GEORGE III POLYCHROME PAINTED SATINWOOD "BALLOON" MANTLE CLOCK, LATE 18TH/EARLY 19TH CENTURY, the balloon form case with handpainted floral decoration throughout, centering a green grisaille oval profile bust of the Roman goddess Minerva, raised on a trailing blossom decorated plinth and gilt brass shaped bracket feet, beneath a hinged circular convex glazed bezel opening to a white painted dial with black Arabic numerals enclosing reticulated blued cut steel hands and twin key escapements, reversing to a glazed door opening to a four post brass back plate with suspended circular pendulum and striking domed metal bell, concealing a twin fusee movement. Good condition, with surface buildup, normal minor surface marks and scratches, age cracks, old restorations, cracqueleur of painted areas are possibly later. The movement has been maintained.
